Join Me & The Wayfarers On A New Mexico Walk in September
Pack up your hiking boots, your appetite for world-renowned cuisine, your sense of adventure and your camera and join me in New Mexico.
For six-days in September, I will join a walk in New Mexico with The Wayfarers, the premier walking vacation company since 1984 and personal favorite. From September 12 - 17, 2010, we’ll be walking through some of the most inspiring landscapes on the planet during this magical walk through Georgia O’Keefe country.
You may remember that last September (2009) I went walking with The Wayfarers in the historic Dordogne region of France, and wrote about my experiences in the article Discovering Dordogne.
The previous May (2008) I packed my boots and cameras once again for France and another walking vacation that time to the beautiful region of Provence. You can read about the trip and view the photographs from it in Pure Pleasure in Provence.
This New Mexico walk isn’t necessarily a photo-themed tour, but I’ll be shooting plenty, happy to answer your questions while we walk and share my insights, knowledge, and passion for both photography and the Land of Enchantment.
The trip begins and ends in the art center and 400-year-old capital city of Santa Fe, with visits to Bandelier National Monument, Georgia O’Keefe’s Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, the juniper and piñon dotted landscape of Frijoles Canyon and the mighty Rio Grande. And we’ll visit artists, eat amazing New Mexican meals and have time to relax in luxury adobe hotels!
I’m a huge fan of the Wayfarers and their dedication to creating inspired itineraries for worldwide walking vacations. Their walking guides and trip managers bring the landscape to life with a passion and understanding of the history, culture and people of the regions they visit. The unique camaraderie that develops on and off trail, is the essence of Wayfaring and the reason that like me, 95% of their guests are repeat walkers. JOIN ME SEPTEMBER 12 - 17, 2010, WITH A DAY OR TWO ON EACH END FOR TIME IN SANTA FE, ALBUQUERQUE OR TAOS.
The walk is rated as moderate (5-7 miles per day) with mostly good trails, easy trails, with elevation gains of 300-500-feet at altitude (7,000-ft).
