19th Annual Sedona Arts Festival October 10th & 11th, 2009
Fall into the arts as the red rocks of Sedona will once again provide the backdrop for the award-winning Sedona Arts Festival taking place on October 10th & 11th, The Festival will showcase over 150 world-class artists and craft persons, continuous live musical entertainment, great food, an extraordinary raffle, the interactive KidZone and as a very special feature this year - the Tony Curtis Art Tent. Yes, THAT Tony Curtis.
The Sedona Arts Festival is recognized as one of the best festivals of its size in the nation and this year’s event will be no exception. The artists have been carefully chosen by an experienced jury to represent a wide variety of mediums and styles of the highest quality including excellence in ceramics, fiber art, jewelry, mixed media, photography, painting, sculpture and wood. Many new artists will be represented alongside the best and brightest from our own community. “It’s important to us that we support our local artists as well as bringing fresh talent from outside the area to inspire and delight the nearly 5000 visitors we attract each year. I’m very excited about the roster of visual artists we’re showcasing,” explained Executive Director of the not-for-profit Festival, Gayle Taylor. “In addition to keeping the Festival fresh and filled with breathtaking art, there will be something for every taste and budget.”
One of the special features at the Festival this year is an exhibition of the artwork of legendary actor, legendary artist, Tony Curtis, who is expected to make a personal appearance at the Sedona Arts Festival on Saturday morning. He is enjoying his successful second career as a fine artist and the tent will exhibit work from his 40 year career as a visual artist. Mr. Curtis has always worked with painting, sketching and other mediums, but his acting career took center stage. Now he finds that he’s more interested in working in the visual arts and is featured in galleries around the world including London, Paris and New York. One of his paintings has been placed at the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan.
Tony Curtis will be in Sedona as part of several special events in collaboration with the Goldenstein Gallery, the Sedona International Film Festival and L’Auberge de Sedona. In addition, the Festival will be offering “An Intimate Evening with Tony Curtis”, a limited seating sumptuous dinner served at the award winning AAA Four Diamond luxury creekside retreat, L’Auberge de Sedona on Friday, October 9th. Cocktails will be served on the lawn starting at 6pm followed by an intimate dinner with Mr. Curtis.
